The series of paper plate masks were sparked into creation one afternoon, when I was trying to entertain my little girl. I made her a lion face mask from materials I found lying around the house and she loved it. It was a simple and pleasurable thing to make and developed into a series which I exhibited at Off The Kerb Gallery in Collingwood.

I used permanent markers in mixed colours combined with metallic pens, to create patterns overlaid on the facial features of strange tribal entities. Most of my patterns are based around point, the dot or circle. The dot inside the circle is one of my oldest symbols, representing the start of creation, the beginning of life.
